The title of this album has many meanings to Otter’s Holt - David and Barbara Denz. First and foremost, it comes from the song Jock O’Hazeldean, which is a particular favourite of Barbara’s. But it also applies to our lives together as we continually cross borders to new territories - in our work lives; in our music lives; and in our real lives as we emigrated to Canada in 2008.

So … what’s an otter’s holt? Otters make burrows, called a holt, in the sides of river banks or shallow dry areas near their main fishing hole. There, they give birth to and raise their young. Our band name has two origins for us:
• First, we rescue ferrets, which, like otters, are mustelids. And Barbara’s “sacred animal” is the sea otter.
• Second, Otter’s Holt is the name of a famous traditional Irish reel in Bm.

All songs were recorded by David Denz at Otter’s Holt North except for the drum performance by Joe Kovacs in Just Desserts, which was recorded by Dennis Ferby at Oakstone Sound, Victoria, BC. All songs were produced by David and Barbara Denz and mixed and mastered by David Denz at Otter’s Holt North.
